Products Description

Pentaerythritol is primarily used in the coatings industry, where it can be utilized to manufacture alkyd resin coatings, enhancing the hardness, gloss, and durability of the coating film. It is also employed as a raw material for rosin esters required in colored paints, varnishes, and printing inks, and can be used to produce drying oils, intumescent coatings, and aviation lubricants. Furthermore, it is utilized in the production of pharmaceuticals and pesticides. Pentaerythritol contains four identical hydroxymethyl groups in its molecule, exhibiting high symmetry. Therefore, it is frequently used as a raw material for the preparation of polyfunctional compounds. Nitration of pentaerythritol yields pentaerythritol tetranitrate, a high-explosive; esterification produces pentaerythritol triacrylate, which is used in coatings. It can also serve as a flame retardant for adhesives, and when combined with ammonium polyphosphate, forms an intumescent flame retardant. Additionally, it is used as a crosslinking agent for polyurethanes, providing internal branching within the polyurethane structure.
